Everyone’s a Curator

This evening will feature a screening of YouTube videos curated by its audience. All are invited to select their favorite YouTube clip and submit the corresponding URL address to reserve a timeslot. Entries can be reserved ahead of time via Telic’s website (see below) or in person on the night of the event. There is no limit to the number of selections any one person can make and are strictly on a first come, first served basis to the first 50 entries. (Due to the large number of videos, please try and keep your selections around 3 minutes or less!)

$5 will reserve your timeslot and automatically enters you into a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses. Winners will be announced at the end of the evening. (After you do the Google Checkout thing below, send an email to everyonesacurator -at - telic -dot- info with your selected YouTube URL).

Time-Based Conceptual Art Symposium

TELIC presents a symposium on time-based conceptual art at UCLA with the Department of Design | Media Arts and basjanader.com. This symposium is held in conjunction with our exhibition, Gravity Art. It is free and open to the public.

Two artists from the exhibition will speak: Guido van der Werve and Marco Schuler.

The curator of the exhibition, Rene Daalder, will give a short talk about Gerry Schum’s film Identifications, which will then be screened.

At the end of the evening, Seven Easy Pieces by Marina Abramovic will be screened for the first time in Los Angeles.

Pirates and Hustlers

Fernando Sanchez and Sean Dockray present “Pirates and Hustlers” from Saturday June 30 - July 01, 2007, in front of TELIC Gallery. Noon to 6pm on both days.

Fernando Sanchez will be exhibiting and selling “Los Angeles Bootlegs”: photographs downloaded from the current exhibitions of Los Angeles art galleries web pages. In addition, he will be selling the art list of all the galleries and their corresponding images.

Sean Dockray will be selling dvd’s of art videos downloaded off the internet by some of the greatest artists of all time for $8. Each video is limited to an edition of 8 with the price doubling on each sale, going up to $1,024.

The Fundraising Show

In the 30 days between June 21 and July 21, a different artist (almost) each day will use TELIC’s gallery to make money. This is both an exhibition and a fundraiser - the artists are conceiving installations, performances, lectures, and other schemes; and the money they earn is split 25/75 with TELIC (an inverse of the typical non-profit commission).

Although arts organizations and artists spend a lot of time thinking about money, it is an issue that’s largely absent from our programming, and artistic practice in general. This exhibition, however, will bring private financial concerns to the front, into the aesthetic experience of the gallery space.

Nate Harrison - Can I Get An Amen? (Version 1)

Can I Get An Amen? is an audio installation consisting of a spoken word recording and copyright documents, recounting a critical/historical perspective of perhaps the most sampled drum beat in the history of recorded music- the Amen Break. The story of its use is set in relation to current issues involving copyright control of contemporary culture production. The work seeks to expose a paradox in the techno-utopian concept of ‘information wanting to be free’ and its agency for social reform, where in information increasingly easily and quickly disseminated across cultural netowrks also leads to a further limitation and rules of its use.
